The WoodTreat Project Has Officially Started
WoodTreat is a project funded by the European Union under the CBE JU (Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking) programme, with the ambition to revolutionise the management of treated wood waste.
Coordinated by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the project addresses a major environmental challenge: the valorisation of highly polluted post-consumer wood (HPPCW) and creosote-treated wood (CTW) waste streams, which are currently mostly incinerated or landfilled.
A Clear Goal: Turning Waste into Value
WoodTreat aims to:
- Recover clean secondary raw materials from complex and contaminated wood waste streams
- Reduce environmental and health risks linked to wood preservatives
- Develop high-value bio-based products
- Promote innovative solutions aligned with circular economy principles
Through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach, the project seeks to demonstrate how treated wood waste can be safely and effectively transformed from an environmental burden into a sustainable industrial resource.
Kick-off Meeting in Uppsala
The project was officially launched during a two-day kick-off meeting in Uppsala, Sweden, where all partners gathered to align on objectives, operational strategies, and the next steps.
The meeting marked the beginning of an ambitious and collaborative journey focused on innovation and sustainability.
